Dirimart is currently hosting the third solo exhibition by Özlem Günyol & Mustafa Kunt titled Upfalling Ones at its venue in Dolapdere. Through methods such as translation, coding, deconstruction, classification, articulation, and superimposition in their works, the artist duo invites viewers into a world where symbols of social power are fragmented and reconstructed.

In pursuit of an aesthetic that involves dismantling “Things” and rearranging them, detached from their original physicality and context, the artist duo probes the perception of physicality and context within their exhibition. With a striking approach to object reconfiguration, the artists showcase a total of seven works, including four new pieces specifically created for this exhibition. Through these artworks, they offer a humorous commentary on how power is expressed through physical size or height. These objects, constantly reconsidered in different works, form an intricate body of artwork, transforming public space monuments into everyday objects such as carpets, stairs, or climbing walls, and bringing them into the exhibition space.

Bringing together elements symbolizing power in the exhibition space and scaling them down to human size, Upfalling Ones establishes an order that places people at the center rather than adhering to a hierarchical structure that marginalizes them. By transforming objects from an order where power is dictated by size and height, and subsequently de-powering them, the exhibition creates room for diverse interpretations, bringing them to the same level as the viewer.

Upfalling Ones can be visited at Dirimart Dolapdere until April 28, 2024.
